Sandy Hollow Heritage Park

Sandy Hollow Heritage Park served as the “sunset stand” after the Continental Army’s first line of defense gave way to the much larger and heavily armed British forces during the Battle of Brandywine.

Looking much as it did in 1777, the park’s open spaces are intended to be a place of quiet reflection, historical education, and recreation. Visit the Peace Garden behind the Birmingham Friends Meetinghouse to view the marker paying tribute to the British and American soldiers who fell at the battle at their common grave.

There is also a monument to the Marquis de Lafayette in the Lafayette Cemetery who was injured at this, his first battle of the war.
